Macbeth act 4

Witch 2 says, “By the pricking of my thumb, Something wicked this way comes.” Who arrives? Macbeth
What is Macbeth’s attitude towards the witches this time? He is very arrogant and demands they do something for him instead of asking.
What is the first apparition, what does it show/say and what is Macbeth’s reaction? An armed head (in a helmet) that says to beware Macduff. Macbeth thanks him and says he had confirmed his fears.
What is the second apparition, what does it show/say and what is Macbeth’s reaction? A bloody child that says nobody born of woman shall harm Macbeth. Macbeth then thinks Macduff can’t hurt him but he will kill him just to be safe.
What is the third apparition, what does it show/say and what is Macbeth’s reaction? A child wearing a crown with a tree in his hand who says Macbeth will be king until “Birnan wood moves to Dunsinane”. Macbeth says he will live a long time and die of old age cause that couldn’t happen.
What is the fourth apparition, what does it show/say and what is Macbeth’s reaction? Eight kings and Banquos ghost which shows that Banquos son will be king. Macbeth gets very angry and says he wants to take out his eyes.
Macbeth says (about the witches), “Infected be the air whereon they ride, and damned all those that trust them!” What is Macbeth, in effect, saying about himself? He is basically condemning himself.
Where is Macduff? Why isn’t he with his family? England (ask why he isn’t with his family)
What is Lady Macduff’s attitude at the moment about her husband Macduff? She says he is a traitor, coward and liar but she is actually just frightened and doesnt know what to do.
Why does Macbeth have Macduff’s family and servants killed? He knows that Macduff knows the truth and isn’t loyal so he wants to kill his family to show Macduff and anyone else what will happen if they betray Macbeth.
Why is Malcom in England? To protect himself from Macbeth, he doesn’t want to be killed.
Why does Macduff travel to England? He wants Malcom to come home and take the throne. He also wants Malcom and the king of England to build an army to defeat Macbeth.
Why does Malcom test Macduff? Malcom is worried that Macbeth sent Macduff to bring him back. He wants to make sure Macduff is being honest and is loyal to Scotland, not Macbeth. Malcom is not as trusting as Duncan and he is very honest about it.
What news does Ross bring to Macduff? That his wife, children, and servants have been killed by Macbeth’s men, nobody survived.
What does Malcom tell Macduff to do with his grief? He tells him that he should get revenge to cure his grief and that he should take it like a man.
What does Malcom resolve to do by the end of Act 4? Malcom and Macduff will lead an army to overthrow Macbeth and Macduff wants to kill Macbeth himself.
