Prospero | Prospero is the ousted Duke of Milan who has been living in exile on a remote island for the past twelve years. He’s also a powerful magician, father of Miranda, master of Ariel and Caliban, and a guy who really likes his books. |
Miranda | Miranda is the daughter of Prospero, she was exiled to the island with him. She falls in love with Ferdinand(who is the first man she lays her eyes on.) |
Caliban | Half fish, half man. Caliban is the original owner of the island. He is now used by Prospero as a slave. Son of a witch (Sycorax) |
Ariel | Ariel is a spirit, trapped by (sycorax) in a tree and then rescued by Prospero. Ariel is now used a slave by Prospero. Ariel helped create the tempest. |
Antonio | Brother of Prospero, his the one who exiled Prospero and Miranda with help by Alonso. He did this to become the new Duke of Milan |
Alonso | The King of Napels, he helped Antonio exile Prospero and Miranda. The dad of Ferdinand. |
Ferdinand | Prince Ferdinand is Alonso’s son and the heir to the throne of Naples. He is quick to love, and seemingly quick to forget his father’s “death,” but it does seem that his heart is true and his affections, though quick, are genuine. He does have a sort of princely arrogance about him. (He may be a prince, but a little humility never killed anybody.)We learn about Ferdinand mostly through his efforts to gain Miranda from Prospero. Ferdinand is happy in his labors, blinded by love, and quick to promise the title of queen and wife to a girl before he even knows her name. He also vows to stay true to her father, Prospero, and not violate Miranda’s chastity before their wedding night – maybe because he’s a good guy, maybe because Prospero threatens that the heavens will rain down fire and brimstone on him. |
