Act 1, Sunday Evening | Romeo and Juliet meet at the Capulet’s Mask Party. It is love at first sight. Romeo and Juliet speak and share a kiss. The first time they speak with one another is in a sonnet. |
Act 2, Monday Morning | They go to Friar Lawrence in his cell and ask him to make plans for their wedding. Capulet or Montague does not know of this wedding. He agrees to it because he thinks it may end the feud between the two families. |
Act 2, Early Monday Afternoon | Friar Lawrence marries the two off. The Nurse gives Romeo a rope ladder so he can climb up to her bedchamber later that night so they can finalize their marriage and bang. |
Act 3, Late Monday Afternoon | Mercutio gets in a fight with Tybalt. Tybalt kills Mercutio. |
Act 3, Early Monday Evening | Romeo kills Tybalt. |
Act 3, Monday Night | Romeo is informed of his banishment by the Prince from Friar. Capulet arranges the marriage of Juliet and Paris for Thursday. |
Act 3, Tuesday Dawn | Romeo and Juliet part from one another after a long night of banging. |
Act 4, Tuesday Morning | Juliet refuses to marry Paris. This infuriates her father. |
Act 4, Tuesday Afternoon | Juliet goes to talk to Friar Lawrence about ways she can get out of the marriage. He gives her a potion she can mix with something and then drink- it will put her body to sleep for 42 hours, so her everyone will think she’s dead. This way, she won’t have to get married to Paris and will escape away with Romeo. He says that he will deliver a note to Romeo that will entail the whole plan, so he will know that she isn’t actually dead. |
Act 4, Tuesday Night | Juliet drinks the potion. Before she takes it, she toasts to Romeo. |
Act 5, Wednesday Morning | Nurse finds Juliet “dead” in her bedchamber. She calls the Capulets in. All of the wedding preparations are changed to those for a funeral. |
Act 5, Wednesday Afternoon | Romeo hears of Juliet’s death through Balthasar. Romeo comes back to Verona and plans to go to the Capulet tomb, where Juliet is buried. As he is on his way back, he buys poison to kill himself with from an apothecary. |
Act 5, Thursday Evening | Romeo arrives at Juliet’s coffin in the Capulet tomb. Paris sees him and begins to fight him. Romeo kills Paris. Before he is killed, Paris asks him to place him beside Juliet in her coffin. Romeo follows his wishes. Then, drinks the poison. Romeo dies instantly just as Juliet begins to wake right as he does so. |
Act 5, Thursday Night | The Capulet’s and Montague’s arrive at the Capulet tomb. Lady Montague died of a broken heart over Romeo’s death. Capulet says he will build a statue of Romeo, purely made of gold. Montague then says he will build a statue of Juliet, made of gold as well. Both are made to honor the two star-crossed lovers. |
