What does Romeo mean when he says, “Then I deny you, stars!”? He is saying that through his free-will he will change what the stars have decreed, MEANING THAT HIS FATE TOOK JULIET AWAY, BUT HE WILL KILL HIMSELF TO BE WITH HER ANYWAY.
What actions does Balthasar’s news prompt Romeo to do? He goes to an apothecary to buy poison
What does Friar John tell Friar Laurence? He tells Lawrence that he couldn’t deliver the note explaining about the potion and that Juliet isn’t really dead. He was detained in a house because the authorities thought there was a plague there
After hearing this news from Friar John, what does Friar Laurence intend to do? He plans to be there when Juliet wakes up and he’ll take her to a safe place until he can get her to Romeo.
Why is Paris at Juliet’s tomb? Paris really loved Juliet and goes there to mourn her death with flowers and his tears.
Romeo gives Balthasar two reasons for entering the Capulet’s tomb. What are those two reasons? Romeo wants to go in the tomb to see Juliet, and to get the ring from her ‘dead’ finger.
Why does Paris think that Romeo has come to the tomb? Paris thinks Romeo is there to desecrate the tomb since he is from the rival family.
What is it about Juliet that should have told Romeo that she was not dead? He says, why art thou yet so fair and death’s pale ensign is not on you or something like that. She should be smelling pretty ripe by now.
Why doesn’t Friar Laurence stay in the tomb with Juliet after she awakens? He is upset about discovering Romeo’s body and the guards spook him because he is worried about his punishment because of his involvement in this affair.
Why does Juliet kiss Romeo after he is dead? She hopes there is still some poison on his lips.
When Montague first arrives on the scene, what does he tell those gathered? Romeo’s mom is dead of a broken heart from his banishment. This is critical to the balance of the deaths in the story. The Prince says later we’ve each lost a brace of kinsmen. A brace is two. Capulets lose Tybalt and Juliet, Montagues lose Romeo and his mom, the Prince loses Mercutio and Paris. It is kind of lame that she dies off-stage.
