What is Macbeth’s lie to Banquo about the witches’ prediction? He hasn’t thought about it.He says: “I think not of them”
What is the signal Lady Macbeth is to give Macbeth to let him know that she has taken care of the guards? Lady Macbeth rings the bell three times.
What excuse does Lady Macbeth give for not killing Duncan herself? He resembled to much of her Father.
After Macbeth kills Duncan, he goes to Lady Macbeth and in concerned about not being able to say “Amen.” What is her advice for him? He has a guilty conscience that won’t let him say it, she tells him to stop thinking or go crazy.
Then Macbeth is worried about hearing a voice saying, “Macbeth does murder sleep.” What does Lady Macbeth tell him to do? Lady Macbeth tells him to hide his emotions and actions.
Why won’t Macbeth take the daggers back to the scene of the crime? Macbeth did not want to leave the daggers at the scene because he felt guilty about what he had just done.
Who was knocking? Macduff and Lennox were knocking.
What three things does drinking provoke? Drinking provokes a red nose, sleep, and urine.
How does Lennox describe the night, and what is Macbeth’s response? Lennox quietly describes the night as rather painful. Macbeth then responds that his tan colored long sword was too much for lennox to handle and that he told him so.
What does Macduff discover? Macduff discovers King Duncan dead.
Macduff says, “Oh gentle lady, ‘Tis not for you to hear what I can speak. The repetition in a woman’s ear, would murder as it fell.” What is ironic about this? It is ironic because Lady Macbeth was part of King Duncan’s killing; and Macduff just discovered that the King has been killed.
What excuse or explanation does Macbeth give for killing the guards (grooms)? What is his real reason? Macbeth killed the guards to keep them from protecting the King and serving as murder witnesses, and to blame them for his own crime. But he claimed to have done it out of raging, uncontrolled anger over their killing his King.
Why do Malcolm and Donalbain leave? So that no one has accusations. Malcolm is next in line for the throne; and they suspect Macbeth murdered the King and feared they might be next to be killed or next to be blamed for the murder
Why does Ross not believe that Malcolm and Donalbain are responsible for Duncan’s death? It made no sense that they would kill their father because they loved him very much
