What was the main purpose of Act 3? | The main purpose of Act 3 is to show Macbeth’s troubles and faults like; he was ruthless, arrogant and power hungry. |
Why does Macbeth decide to kill Banquo? | Macbeth feels that he must kill his friend Banquo and the young Fleance in order to prevent the second part from becoming realized. But, as Fleance’s survival suggests, there can be no escape from the witches’ prophecies. |

What is the external conflict in Act 3? | External conflict is when a main character has a problem with the surrounding characters that are outside of his control. The external conflict in Act 3 is that Macbeth is on a killing spree because he wants to make sure the witches prophecy comes true. But because Fleance has escaped that is outside of MacBeth’s control. (Macbeth hired two murderers to kill Fleance and Banquo to prevent the witches’ prophecy from coming true.) |

When you imagine a caldron you imagine it bubbling and then you think about what they are putting in and how its brewing. |
What is the plan at the end of Act 4? | Malcolm and Macduff has just learned that Macbeth had Macduff’s wife and children killed. Macduff is stunned almost to being speechless. Malcolm tells Macduff to let the grief Macduff is feeling now be the cornerstone of their desire for revenge against Macbeth. Malcolm also wants Macbeth dead.Macbeth will win. |

What is Macbeth’s tragic flaw? | Macbeth’s arrogance was his tragic flaw. He displayed his arrogance that since he was king no one would ever take him down and defeat him. |
What were the themes of MacBeth? | 1) The power of guilt. Lady Macbeth was the biggest influence for the power of guilt because she told him he was great and he would become king and she would become queen. She was very self centered. Lady Macbeth tried to cover for MacBeth when he saw the ghost of Banquo. She explained that he had the gift. But MacBeth seeing the ghost was really an indication of MacBeth’s guilt. Also when Lady MacBeth repeatedly tries to clean her hands of the blood. 2) The Corruption of Power Lady MacBeth was so corrupt that she would do anything to be queen. She killed Duncan and convinced MacBeth to kill others so that they both could have power. 3) Blind Ambition – Lady MacBeth showed that she would do anything to achieve her desire to be queen. |
