Act 2 Scene 1 | Benvolio and Mercutio search for Romeo who hides behind the Orchard Wall. They are rude about Rosaline and try to lure him out |
Act 2 Scene 2 | In the Capulet orchard, Romeo and Juliet talk to themselves. then they speak to each other. He then tells her of his love for her and swears to himself to marry her. |
Act 2 Scene 3 | Friar Lawrence is gathering plants and says how everything has good and evil in it. Romeo asks him to him and Juliet. Friar agrees hoping to turn the family’s hate for each other into love |
Act 2 Scene 4 | Romeo arrives home and is told Tybalt seeks to fight him. Then him and Mercutio have a battle of wits when the Nurse arrives with her servant Peter. Mercutio then teases Nurse and exits with Benvolio. She tells him to not tease Juliet but he tells her he wants to marry Juliet. Nurse warns him of Paris even though she only loves him |
Act 2 Scene 5 | Juliet is nervous because Nurse is gone for 3 hours. She arrives out of breath with a head and back ache. when Nurse learns Lady Capulet’s gone she tells Juliet she’s going to marry Romeo. She gets a ladder to allow Romeo in for the honeymoon. |
Act 2 Scene 6 | Friar Lawrence is worried the star crossed lovers won’t last so he warns them to love moderately. Romeo says thy’re “Beggars who can count their worth” Friar marries them. |
Act 3 Scene 1 | Tybslt asks Benvolio and Mercutio where the villain Romeo is. Mercutio acts rude to him and they fight. When Romeo tries to get in the way Tybalt takes a cheap shot, killing Mercutio. When Tybalt later runs into Romeo, Romeo tells him to take back his insult. Then those two fight and an angry Romeo kills Tybalt. Benvolio tells him to run off before the Prince arrives. The Prince decides to nly banish Romeo instead of giving him a death sentence. |
Act 3 Scene 2 | Nurse tells Jliet that Tybalt is dead and his killer, Romeo, banished. The word “banished” hurts Juliets heart. First she is angry at her husband but then understands he had to do it. After Juliet threatens to hang herself with the ladder Nurse promises to find Romeo to comfort her. Nurse goes to Friar Lawrence’s to give him a ring from Juliet. |
Act 3 Scene 3 | Romeo says he’d rather be killed than banished. Friar tells him to grow up and be thankful for the prince’s kindness. Friar then advises him to go spend time with is wife but leave before guards go out. |
Act 3 Scene 4 | The Capulet’s believe Tybalt’s death is what’s troubling Juliet so Lord Capulet allows Paris to marry her hoping it will cheer her up. He sets the marriage for that Thursday. |
Act 3 Scene 5 | The lark signals morning but they mistake for a nightingale. As Romeo leaves, the couple realizes they are both pale, which frightens them. Lady Capulet tells Juliet she’s marrying Paris, and Juliet says she’d hang herself. Her father loses his mind and calls her ungrateful. Nurse tells Juliet to just marry Paris because Romeo will never come back. Juliet decides to ask for Friar Lawrence’s advice or she’ll kill herself. |

Fight in the streets | sparked by Mercutio’s rudeness and Tybalt’s anger at Romeo. While fighting, Romeo jumps in when Tybalt takes a cheap shot and runs. Benvolio takes Mercutio for help which is worthless. Romeo(fueled by anger) fights Tybalt later and kills him. Benvolio pushes Romeo to run. Prince arrives angry and sentences Romeo to Banishment |
Romeo talks to Juliet in her yard | They speak to themselves about each other. He compares her to the sun in the east saying her eyes are brighter than the stars. he wants to be a glove on her hand. He is afraid she won’t love him because of his name and she fears her family will find and kill him. After he proclaims his love for her she says they’re moving “too rash, too undivised, too sudden.” |
Lord Capulets temper tantrum | Juliet says how she refuses to marry Paris. Lord Capulet loses his mind calling her ungrateful. he says he thought his only child would be a blessing but is really a curse. both of her parents leave dissapointed. Nurse says to just marry Paris. Only Nurse knows of her current marriage with Romeo. |
