Now old desire doth in his death-bed lie, | Romeo’s love for Rosaline is over. |
And young affection gapes to be his heir; | Romeo’s love for Juliet has taken its place. |
That fair for which love groan’d for and would die, | Rosaline for whom Romeo cried and complained. |
With tender Juliet match’d, is now not fair. | Compared to Juliet, Rosaline is unattractive. |
Now Romeo is beloved and loves again, | Romeo is in love again but this time the girl loves him back. |
Alike bewitched by the charm of looks, | They are in love with each other’s looks. |
But to his foe supposed he must complain, | Romeo unintentionally fell in love with the enemy. |
And she steal love’s sweet bait from fearful hooks: | Juliet unknowingly fell in love with HER enemy. |
Being held a foe, he may not have access | Being the enemy, Romeo won’t be able to see Juliet. |
To breathe such vows (many) as lovers use to swear; | To say how much he loves her/marry her. |
And she as much in love, her means much less | She loves him equally, she can’t see him. |
To meet her new-beloved any where: | To go out anywhere to be together (she is 13 years old.) |
But passion leads them power, time means, to meet | But their love will give them the strength and time will give them the ability to meet. |
Tempering extremities with extreme sweet. | Bringing together 2 enemies with love. |
