Why do Duncan’s sons decide to leave Scotland They realize that it is unsafe to stay there, because someone might kill them because of their positions. They fear that even their closest relatives will be the ones to take their lives.
An atmosphere of foreboding and horror is slowly built up in Act Two. Much of the horror is implicit in Macbeth’s famous dagger soliloquy in scene one. Why does Macbeth refer to the dagger as a ‘fatal vision’? The dagger is referred to as a fatal vision because it is what Macbeth used to kill Duncan, which caused the deaths of many others including Duncans grooms and Macbeth himself.
What does he mean by a ‘dagger of the mind’? He means that the dagger is just in his imagination, created by his guilt.
What is suggested by having Macbeth experience a hallucination at this moment, just before the murder? Macbeth is feeling guilty about this and is regretting killing such an innocent man for power.
In scene ii after the murder of Duncan, Macbeth is troubled by voices he heard or thought he heard. Why could he not say “amen” when a voice said “God bless us”? Because Macbeth was right in the middle of doing something really bad, he was about to kill Duncan.
