Why do the witches show Macbeth the 8 Kings? To suggest that Banquo’s sons will be Kings.
What does Macbeth order to be done when he hears that Macduff has fled to England? Deaths of Macduff’s wife, children, and servants.
How would you describe Macbeth now, as compared to his earlier ambivalence? He is no longer ambivalent, he doesn’t hesitate to kill.
What has Ross just told Lady Macduff in Scene 2? That Macduff has gone to England.
How does Lady Macduff react to this news? She says his flight is madness, not wisdom, since he left his family unprotected.
What does the messenger tell Lady Macduff to do? To escape with her children.
Who is killed in Scene 2? Lady Macduff, her children, and her servants.
Why are the murders even more terrible than those previously committed? Its a senseless crime because Lady Macduff and the children are no threat to Macbeth.
Why is Macduff’s speech in lines 4-6 ironic? Macduff is talking about orphans and widows and doesn’t know his family has been killed.
Why doesn’t Malcolm trust Macduff? 1.) Macbeth and Macduff have always been friends. 2.) Macduff may be winning points with the Kin by betraying Malcolm. 3.) He thinks Macduff could still be loyal to Macbeth because Macbeth has not harmed Macduff in any way. 4.) Macduff left his family unprotected in Scotland.
In lines 25-28 what does Malcolm ask Macduff? Why he left his family without telling him goodbye or where he was going.
