Interpret Banquo’s soliloquy Now Macbeth got everything, the king, thane of Cawdor, and of Glamis. I suspect you cheated to win these titles. But the witches also said that my sons and grandsons would be kings. If the witches tell the truth, maybe what they said about me will come true too.
Where is Banquo going this night and with who? He is going to ride a horse with his son.
Interpret why Macbeth fears Banquo Because Banquo might soon find out that he is the murder and later he might want the throne for his son as to fulfill the witches prediction.
Interpret the line: “He chide the sisters when first…” Banquo chided the witches when they first called me king, asking them to tell him his own future. Then they named him the father to a line of kings.
What lie does Macbeth tell the 2 murderers concerning Banquo? Banquo made their lives as bad as hell.
What reason does Macbeth give for securing the services of these murderers? Banquo made their lives awful, he is our enemy and if he is not killed then he would make us worst. Also after, his son would soon become king.
Who, according to Macbeth, must also to die along with Banquo? Why? Fleance because as the witches said Banquo will be the father of the future kings which is that his son will soon be king and Macbeth doesn’t want that to happen.
Interpret Lady Macbeth’s line: “Naught’s had, all’s spent…” If you get what you want and still not happy, you’ve spent everything and gained nothing. It’s better to be the person who gets murdered than to be the killer and be tormented with anxiety.
What does Lady Macbeth chide Macbeth for? She blames Macbeth for being worried and sad about what he has done. She doesn’t like Macbeth being weak and feel guilty about the murder.
What dreams have been plaguing Macbeth? Duncan’s ghost
Why does Macbeth feel it might be better to be dead? He meant suffering from guilt and torment is worse than being dead.
Explain what Lady Macbeth mean by saying, “You must leave this.” She is telling Macbeth to leave behind Duncan’s death.
What does Macbeth mean when he says he wants night to come? Because he wants to night to come so he can finish what he started and he can do the bad deeds in the darkness of night.

Who has Macbeth sent to join the murderers? Why? The third murderer because he doesn’t trust the two murderers so he sent this man to keep eyes on them and to make sure noone knows that Macbeth himself sent men to kill Banquo and his son.

According to the murderers, how was Banquo killed? His throat was cut.
Interpret Macbeth’s line: “Then comes my fit again..” Now I’m scared again. Otherwise I would have been relief but now I’m all tangled up with doubts and fears.
Interpret Macbeth’s serpent metaphor in lines: “There the grown serpent lies…” Banquo has killed, but Fleance will be threatening us later. For now he can’t do anything.

What is Hecate planning to do to Macbeth? Summon him to a meeting. To give Macbeth some visions which will give him false impressions, false hopes for his personal safety and the safety of his rule, so he will continue on his path of destruction.

Who is “tyrant”? What is tyrant? Why is he called a tyrant? Tyrant means a ruler who has complete power over a country and who is cruel and unfair. Macbeth because he is ruining his country.
