Fait is foul and foul is fair Speaker: the three witchescontext: beginning of act, witches just planned on meeting macbeth after the war. They are equating what is fair with what is foul. Makes readers suspicious of them.
if chance will have me king why chance may crown me without my stir Speaker: MacbethContext: Macbeth has just been told by the witches that he is going to be the new thane of Cawdor and also the king. He is told he will be the thane by Duncan. While discussing with Banquo, he asks why would they crown him king with out his consent. He thinks maybe if fate wants him to king then fate will make it happen and he wont have to do anything.
stars, hide your fires let not light see my black and deep desires Speaker: MacbethContext: stars hide your light so nobody can see the bad desires that are in me. He wants to be the prince of cumberland but duncan just crowned it to Malcolm.
yet do i fear thy nature it is too full o’ th’ milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way Speaker: Lady MacbethContext: Lady has learned that Mac wants to become king and about the prophecy. She knows what needs to happen for him to get the power. She fears that mac is too nice and does not have what it takes to do the deed.
come you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts unsex me here… Speaker: Lady MacbethContext: She knows mac does not have what it takes to do what needs o be done. She asks the spirits to taker her innocent, and caring femininity away so she can do the job of a man
look like th’ innocent flower, but be the serpent under ‘t Speaker: Lady Mac bethcontext: Lady is talking to mac saying that he needs to act like nothing is wrong and that he is still a loyal man to duncan but when the time is right he needs to kill duncan and betray him
if it were done when ’tis done then ’twere well it were done quickly Speaker: MacbethContext: Macbeth is talking to himself about the murder of duncan. Mac is saying that if the all the business having to do with the murder is done when the murder is complete than it is best to be done quickly. Macbeth is contemplating whether he wants to go through with the murder or not. He does not want this to drag on through his life and stick with him.
bring forth men children only, for thy undaunted mettle should compose nothing but males Speaker: MacbethContext: Mac is speaking to Lady saying that he wishes she only has boys because she has such great masculine features and strength that they will be best suit for a boy. Also they need boys to be in line for the throne.
so fair and foul a day i have not seen speaker: macbethcontext: the day is fair because of his great victory on the battlefield and it is foul because of the storm/weather. relates to what the witches said on the first day and shows there plans are coming true
and oftentimes to win us to our harm the instruments of darkness tell us truths win us with honest trifles to betrays in deepest consequence speaker: Banquocontext: banquo is talking to macbeth about the witches prophecy. so far it has come true. ban is doubtful and thinks although the witches were telling us the truth it might come back to bite us in the end.
nothing in his life became him like the leaving it speaker:malcom talking about the thane of cawdorcontext: he never did anything in his life so honorable then how he died. He did by admitting his wrongs and asking for forgiveness.
theres no art to find the minds construction in the face speaker: duncan context: There is no way to tell what someone is thinking or going to do based on the outward appearance they put on. It Shows Duncan’s trust in other people, and foreshadows Macbeth’s betrayal. It sets the themes: deceit, mystery… It also shows the motif of masking- What is on the inside does not always match the outside.
the service and loyalty i owe in doing it pays itself To serve the throne is my job and honor and I require no additional thanks. This quote shows that Macbeth is, on the outside, loyal towards the king. It shows why Duncan starts to put his trust in him. However, on the inside, Macbeth is having a struggle over whether to pursue the throne. It’s what he wants, but he knows that going after it through murder is wrong. He is not completely loyal, because murder is something he is considering.
the prince of cumberland that is a step on which i must fall down, or else oerleap for in my way it lies speaker: macbethmacbeth is talking to himself after hearing duncan say malcom is the new prince of cumberland. he knows to get to the throne he will have to beat the prince. it is in his was of getting the throne
Come, thick night, and pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell, that my keen knife see not the wound it makes…. speaker: Lady Macbethcontext: Come to me, forces of darkness, so as to conceal my dark intentions. she has just received the letter from Macbeth in which he describes his fate. She wishes for the resolve to do anything to achieve the crown from Duncan and Malcolm. It characterizes her as a dark woman with dark intentions and the willingness to bring pain to others for her own personal gain. She is selfish and power-hungry. It foreshadows a conflict between Duncan and Malcolm and Lady Macbeth and Macbeth.The motif is Light&Darkness. 
Hie thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear and chastise with the valor of my tongue all that impedes thee from the golden round Here Lady Macbeth is trying to pass on her cruelty onto Macbeth, in order for him to kill Duncan, which would result in him claiming the crown. This quote shows how much Lady Macbeth cares about Macbeth’s position/status. And how she is willing to sacrifice her innocence in place of cruelty, in order to further her husband’s status

your face my thane is as a book where men may read strange matters speaker: lady macbeth The look on your face can be interpreted different ways. Analysis: Lady Macbeth is trying to tell Macbeth that he needs to better hide his intentions so that their conspiracy is not discovered. Lady Macbeth thinks that Macbeth is too honest and will unintentionally give away their plans prematurely.
